Pay to Play 6th Grade Fundraiser at Pottsville Middle Grades

Well some of you maybe saw a short post on Facebook, but I wanted to take time today to share an exciting story with you all! (for the skimmers, focus on underlined print... :))

As most of you know, I am always looking for places to share about my boys. Students, women, men, communities, church small and large groups, doesn't matter! The Lord is doing wonderful things through the ministry of A Perfect Injustice (hyperlinked to the blog with more incredible stories!) and I love being an encouragement to others through sharing His stories! So, if you know of any groups, let me know!

About a month ago I was asked to share with a group of 6th grade boys and girls who gather on Wednesdays during their lunch time to have Bible study, guest speakers, prayer, etc. They are called the Christian Student Union (CSU). I remember some wonderful experiences participating in CSU when I was in junior high. During my 9th grade year, I became a leader and once prepared a lesson from Matthew 25. On the eve of teaching, I felt so convicted about my life and began crying in my bedroom. "The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’" (Matthew 25:40) I realized that evening that I can be a "good Christian kid" and refrain from "bad" things... but I needed to put my faith into action...

So upon remembering this critical experience in my own walk with the Lord that took place during my junior high years, I began praying that  He could work through me to challenge the young students at Pottsville and they would be inspired to take their faith seriously and put it into action somehow...

The Wednesday for me to speak arrived and I was thrilled to share with the students. I took all my photos and stories and was pumped to share the Lord's work with these young eyes, hearts, and minds! I gathered my things and went to the office to check out, but I was asked to visit a friend of mine's class, Mrs. Cheryl Prock. She asked if I had time to share with the students in her class! Quite a few of her students had NOT been at the  meeting and she wanted them to have the opportunity to hear. And apparently students that DID attend CSU, returned to class sharing all about my boys and how much they enjoyed my presentation. So I shared! and then she invited me to share with her next class! So all in all, I shared with about 70 students on that day. How wonderful.

Now... let's fast forward up to 1 week ago! Ms. Amy Bruce (the CSU sponsor who initially invited me to speak with the students) texted me and said, "One of our young girls is requesting your presence next Wednesday at CSU. Do you think you could make it?" I told her, "Of course!" I was thinking, maybe the young girl was encouraged and inspired and decided to make some changes in her life.. Maybe she is sharing about how she feels the Lord drawing her into ministry in Africa! Or with street kids somewhere else!

Then the day before I was to go and revisit them, Mrs. Cheryl Prock said, "Hey! You should invited your parents. They may enjoy going with you on these little adventures and they are welcome to come and be a part of what the sweet little girl wants to share tomorrow." With the encouragement of my parents attending I began to think... maybe they decided collect a little money for me. How sweet of those young students that would be! But I had NO IDEA what was coming...!!!!

 Are you ready...???

These kiddos were so inspired that they wanted to have a Fundraiser for my boys... They sent home letters with every student sharing that they wanted to raise funds for my boys and they could pay $5 and bring their electronics to school during the week of Benchmark Testing. Kind of a "Pay to Play" fundraiser... Last Wednesday, they presented me with this check...

Can you see the amount?? If not, it is $1,450!!!!!

Thank you, Cheryl Prock, for getting a video!

What an incredible blessing!! When the young girl was reading the little printout of what she was going to say... my heart began pounding. And when I realized they had completed a fundraiser and were giving me that money, I began to cry! It was such an incredible moment to be a part of... This donation turns into a $60/month commitment!! The second largest monthly commitment that has been given!

For the Pottsville Middle Grades 6th Grade CSU boys and girls... and to all of the others who have invested time and finances into the Lords work through my Ugandan boys..
